Chinese passengers witness murder of 18-year-old

They were on their way to their homes in Krugersdorp from the Kruger Park when armed suspects stopped them.

Eight Chinese citizens escaped with their lives late on Monday afternoon, 20 August after the taxi they were travelling in came under fire from an armed person.

Captain Kay Makhubela, spokesperson for the Gauteng Police, said the citizens used a different taxi than was originally planned, because the one they were supposed to use initially was delayed.

“They were on the way back from the Kruger National Park in Limpopo to their homes in Krugersdorp when they were stopped by two suspect. One suspect shot an 18-year-old male youth during the incident,” said Makhubela.

The victim died on scene. It is not yet clear whether the man that was shot was also a Chinese citizen.

The police are investigating the motive for the shooting.

“At the moment‚ we are concentrating on the issue of the murder. We will also investigate all the circumstances of the incident‚” said Makhubele.
