Councillor deems ‘weekend robot’ intersection dangerous and inadequate
This situation is further exacerbated by the very faded road markings and irresponsible drivers.
Annette Fourie, Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor for Ward 18 has made an urgent request for proper road markings at the intersection of Voortrekker, Carol and Barratt Roads.
According to her, this is one of the busiest, most dangerous and most confusing intersections in Mogale City, at any time of day. This situation is further exacerbated by the very faded road markings and irresponsible drivers.
She says the municipality responded by saying there is no paint available as result of providers not being appointed.

“This is shocking,” Annette said.
She went on to say that when the business zone along Voortrekker Road was developed many years ago, upgrading of this intersection as well as the Chelsea Avenue and Voortrekker Road intersection was promised but as of now, this promise remains unfulfilled.
“Over the years, the volumes of traffic, and the illegal stopping of vehicles in this intersection, have increased. Severe damage has been caused to the infrastructure by the many accidents over the years. Most likely, the majority of these accidents can be attributed to the abovementioned factors,” she said.
With this she would like to urge the municipality to prioritise the safety of all motorists making use of this intersection.
