Firefighter’s dream is to become a carpenter

His plan is to produce school furniture one day.

Lucky Qalinge, a Krugersdorp firefighter who is part of the Working on Fire (WoF) initiative, has recently completed his carpentry learnership with the Sector Education and Training Authority (Seta).

During the one-year programme, he obtained certification in machine operation, producing and designing of furniture, woodwork and painting, and various other skills.

According to Lucky, the new skills he has learned will be valuable when he begins his own company. His plan is to produce school furniture one day.

Currently Lucky keeps himself busy with his artwork – sculptures of animals.

The learnership has taught him a lot. Because of this he decided not to pursue other employment, but rather to invest in his own business and develop his skills.

The General Manager of WoF for Gauteng, Stephen Boyes, is very proud of Lucky. He supports all his firefighters who want to enhance their skills and start their own businesses.
