‘We went, we contested, we conquered’
Jannas defied all odds and went all the way to the finals.
The road to the provincials was not a smooth one for the debate team of Hoërskool Jan de Klerk (Jannas).
Participation at provincials hinged on winning the District Championships which took place at Randfontein High.
The host and Jan de Klerk locked horns in the final, and the latter prevailed over their debating nemesis. The triumph earned Jannas the right to represent Gauteng West at the Gauteng Schools Provincial Debating Championships.
In June, representatives of all the 15 districts in Gauteng converged at Stable Inn Springs on the East Rand for the Provincial Championships. It was a battle of the minds and a battle of debating heavy weights.

One district emerged as the champion of champions, and that district had to be Gauteng West, or rather, Gauteng Best. The tournament was highly competitive and the ultimate prize was to represent Gauteng at the National Championships scheduled to take place in the Eastern Cape.
Jannas defied all odds and went all the way to the finals.
The last daunting hurdle was fellow provincial finalists, Ekurhuleni East. Both teams were worthy finalists. It was a titanic and memorable contest.
The dream of becoming Provincial Champions and representing the Province of Champions became a reality.
What made the Jannas community super-excited is that all the five speakers were Provincial debutants. Presedence Hove ranked sixth and was selected to represent the Province. Moses was appointed Provincial Team Coach and his mandate is to prepare the team for Nationals.
