Former principal now mentors local learners

"Many children are talented and some of this talent gets lost along the way when they choose to follow careers which are not meant for them."

Maano Ramadwa, a former principal of Blue Eagle High School in Cosmo City, is ploughing back into the schools with a mentoring programme for learners from West Rand Schools.

He is the founder of the Maano Ramadwa Education Foundation (MREF) which has started enrolling learners from eight schools already. The Foundation has adopted an average of 25 Grade 10 learners in every participating school. The learners in the schools had to write an essay to motivate why they should be part of the mentoring programme.

Maano Ramadwa is also a motivational speaker who aims to uplift youth.

Kagiso Secondary School was one of the eight schools chosen for the mentoring programmes that offer learners the chance to receive monthly contact sessions offered in conjunction through his company Well of Wisdom Training which is a division of Well of Wisdom Holdings.

He also mentioned that this is just the first phase of the programme – the second phase will be introduced in 2019 with Grade 8 learners. Learners in these two grades are lost in the system, especially in the township schools. Teenage pregnancy is more prevalent in these grades and something must be done sooner or later. The mentored learners will be expected to mentor two learners in their schools in order to increase the circle of positive and enthusiastic learners.

Maano Ramadwa also doubles as a radio presenter at Westside FM.

He intends to use his network of friends to play a role with their time and gifts whenever they are available.
