Girls arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm
The two learners were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of and unlicensed firearm and ammunition respectively.
While the crime-prevention members of the Kagiso Police were patrolling in the area on Friday, 7 September, they were given a very alarming tip-off.
A responsible and concerned learner notified the police that a fellow learner in Grade 11 was in possession of a firearm.

“The members went to the school where they met the school’s deputy principal, who led them to the suspect’s class. When the police enquired about the firearm, learners pointed out a 16-year-old girl who was found in possession of ammunition. She then informed the police that the ammunition belonged to her male school mate,” spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya said.
Sibiya said in the police statement that the boy could not be linked to the crime and informed police that he had given the firearm to his other female school mate.
“The police arrested the implicated learner after she was found in possession of the unlicensed firearm.” The two learners were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition respectively.
The 16-year-old was later released into the care of her parents while her 19-year-old accomplice was detained at the Kagiso Police Station.
The latter is expected to appear briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court, facing some serious charges.
