Infant and toddler die in shack fire

The 22-year-old mother was doing laundry when the fire broke out.

On Monday, 17 September, at about 4pm, the Kagiso Police were called to a scene in Kagiso Extension 8.

A 22-year-old mother was outside doing laundry when she was informed that her shack was on fire.

“It is alleged that she called for help, but the fire was already out of control.

Her children, aged eight months and two years, were inside the shack at the time. Neither of them survived the flames,” said Sergeant Tshepiso Mashele, the West Rand Cluster spokesperson.

The Kagiso Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
