Mother’s ex-boyfriend arrested in connection with Kagiso siblings’ murders

A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a brother and sister from Kagiso.

An arrest has been made in the case of a brother and sister from Kagiso who were found buried in shallow graves in Slovoville, Soweto.

“I wish to commend the police officers who worked around the clock to make a breakthrough in this case,” said Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, Gauteng MEC for Community Safety.

The eight-year-old brother and nine-year-old sister went missing from their home in Tshepisong, Kagiso on 14 September. It is alleged that they were playing outside when they disappeared.

A passerby found the siblings buried in shallow graves in Slovoville, Soweto a few weeks later.

According to reports, the children’s hands were tied and they were blindfolded.

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit based in Krugersdorp arrested a man believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the children’s mother in Mpumalanga, last week.

“The number of killings of women and children by the people they love and trust is alarming and cannot continue unabated. I call upon the citizens of this province to be cautious. It is very important that people should make an effort to know the background of the people they bring into their families at all times,” added Nkosi-Malobane.

“I am confident that the State will present a solid case to the court of law, that will make the criminal justice system impose a harsh sentence on the perpetrator of such an atrocious crime. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victims and we hope that they have found closure,” said Nkosi-Malobane.
