The Community Development Department’s aim with the exhibition includes promoting local fine artists and their work to the public and providing an opportunity for artists to sell their work. Through this, they present a platform for the artists to network, as well as the opportunity to learn from each other.

One of the artists is Zenon Rozycki, who has been painting for more than 40 years. This native Polish artist describes himself as an ‘enemy of paint as he destroys it on canvases’.

He has quite a few paintings hanging, not only on the museum walls, but also in Poland, Japan, England and Belgium, among others. Zenon is a self-taught artist who doesn’t limit himself to one style, but is known to specialise in water and it’s reflections.

Another artist, Gerda van der Westhuizen, is also proud to be exhibiting a few of her art works. She describes her style as her own type of contemporary.

Gerda mentioned that she was thrilled to have one of her art works currently hanging in an award-winning guest house situated in Fochville.

A third artist that is exhibiting a few of his pieces is Mashifane Makunyane, a painter, sculptor and graphic designer. He has been an artist for the past 37 years and has participated in many exhibitions across the country.

According to him he especially enjoys sculpting wood – but not just any wood. Because Limpopo is where his heart and home is, he collects his sculpting wood from the area to make it that much more special.

If you are interested in having a look at some of the West Rand’s most beautiful art works, feel free to visit the museum from 9am until 4pm on weekdays and from 9am until noon on Saturdays.
