Spinning instructor shares joy of giving

'Each year I receive 'thank you' gifts from the people I instruct. It was only last Christmas that I came up with the initiative to rather benefit others.'

Once local spinning instructor, Sharon van den Heever, got a taste of the joy of giving, she knew that she had to continue to spread the happiness.

Since she instructs up to 80 fitness fanatics per week, she saw this as an ideal opportunity to engage with them in an effort to make an impact on those less fortunate than herself.

Within a short period of time she managed to collect roughly 40 shoeboxes, which were distributed at a local institution that cares for underprivileged children.

After experiencing the pure joy shown by these children, she decided to make it an annual project and do it even better this year. She went on to say that interested parties are required to choose between a boy or a girl between the ages of a few months and 13 years. The shoeboxes can be filled with clothing items, stationery, clay and sweets, among other things.

She is still in search of local institutions in need of Christmas gifts for children. Even though she has collected more than 50 boxes thus far, there is still a lack of gifts for children aged between one and three as well as children between nine and 13 years.

If you would like to help, find out more or know of any institution that needs help, feel free to contact Sharon on 082 779 5759.
