[UPDATE] Large oil spill at N14 crossing results in chaos

Alternative departments arrived to assist and had to lay down sand to absorb all the oil.

On Wednesday, 28 November, motorists making use of the N14 and the R28 (Pinehaven intersection) were urged to make use of alternative routes due to a large oil spill at the intersection.
The spill occurred when a truck carrying half a tanker full of used car oil overturned at the intersection at about noon.

However, many motorists failed to obey the road signs and hazards. As a result, a large lorry ended up jack-knifed across all of the lanes, bringing all traffic to a standstill and adding to the chaos.

Gaining control of the scene took longer than usual as the West Rand District Municipality’s Fire Department is currently on strike. However, alternative departments arrived to assist and had to lay down sand to absorb all the oil. Roads in all directions were affected by heavy congestion for the rest of the afternoon.
Luckily, no serious injuries were reported.
