Let the Golden Games begin
The oldest person on their team was none other than 80-year-old Flora Munjedzi, who showed her worth in the 800m distance item.

A total of 22 grannies and granddads from Kagiso proved they have what it takes to participate in the annual Golden Games – a national event where persons older than 65 compete in various sporting codes on provincial and national level.
The Games – which are part of the Sport and Recreation Department’s Older Persons Programme – was held during the end of October at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.
The elderly had the opportunity to participate in various items such as Pegging, Duck Walk, Goal Shooting, Jukskei, Ball Relay, Passing the Ball, Ring the Stick, Rugby Ball Throw, Sprints and Relays among other things.

According to Ntata Joseph Kgang, who also participated in the Games, they competed against athletes from all over South Africa. He also mentioned that twice as many gogos and bomkhulus (grannies and granddads) participated in this year’s games in comparison with last year.
He went on to say that the oldest person on their team was none other than 80-year-old Flora Munjedzi, who showed her worth in the 800m distance item.
The next Golden Games will be hosted in Port Elizabeth at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and Joseph invites all interested parties to join in the fun. If you would like to participate or find out more, feel free to contact him on 072 494 0509.
