PHOTOS: Walk for Rhinos event to help save two rhinos was a success

Saturday saw the successful concert and event at Key West to help the Walk for Rhinos organisation to purchase two beautiful rhinos called Annie and Zac.

The Walk for Rhinos organisation celebrated their first ever Inniwoud Rhino Skouspel on Saturday, 1 December, at Key West Shopping Centre with an open air concert, events for the children and other entertainers.

The event was held to aid them in their efforts to purchase two rhinos for conservation purposes. The cost to acquire and transport Annie and Zac will amount to R4,5 million, and the organisation is looking for any help they can get in this regard.

A raffle competition, which was open to everyone, was held during the day. Among the prizes that could be won was a weekend away for four at the Warmwaterberg Spa, a five-day stay at Magalies Park for five people and various hampers and cash prizes, all to the value of R45 000.

Francois Myburgh, founder of the Walk the Rhinos organisation, said, “The event was a massive success,” adding that they were very happy that it did not rain, although the sun was out in full force.

Entertainers to be seen at the event were Marius Strydom, Emil Paul, Linda Kilian, Mike Willemse, Michael Tushki and Annelisa Weiland. Ollie the Singing Clown also entertained visitors by riding his unicycle and making colourful balloon animals. There were also various activities for the kids, including face-painting, train rides, jumping castles, colouring and a chance to meet both Santa Claus and Brucer, the organisation’s rhino mascot.

Lastly, the event also saw the crowning of Mr and Miss Walk for Rhinos in both a junior and senior category.
