Passenger dies as truck driver loses control over bridge

The road was closed while the scene was being cleared and by mid-morning it was reopened.

Shortly before 2am this morning, 29 December, a truck driver allegedly lost control of the truck he was driving on Hendrik Potgieter Road near Cradlestone Mall.

According to Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911, reports from the scene indicate that the driver lost control while driving over a bridge.

The scene after the accident occurred.

“Sadly the passenger sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene,” Herbst’s statement read.

“The driver sustained moderate injuries and once stabilised, was transported to hospital for further treatment.

All necessary authorities were on scene. The road was closed while the scene was being cleared and by mid-morning it was reopened.
