Family fun day unite community against crime
Mogale City Executive Mayor, Naga Patrick Lipudi, was overwhelmed by the unity that the residents displayed.
The Kagiso Extension 9 community recently hosted a neighbourhood family fun day to promote community involvement and neighbourly connection among residents against crime.
The event themed ‘Unite We Stand Against Crime’ was part of Extension 9’s Neighbourhood Watch and United Women of Extension 9’s drive to unite the community.
Mogale City Executive Mayor, Naga Patrick Lipudi, was overwhelmed by the unity that the residents displayed.
“I have been invited to different community events but I have never seen such a united community like this one. This should serve as an example not only to the entire community of Kagiso but to other neighbouring areas,” the Mayor said.
Boasting a bigger attendance than any other event organised in the area, the organisers were gleeful at the potential growth this could mean for future events.
The Neighbourhood Watch’s marketing specialist, Walter Komane said that the attendance showed that no crime will be tolerated in the area.
“Today we are sending a message to the criminals out there that this is a crime-free area where families live in harmony. With the unity that we have just built with our community, police and the municipality, we will ensure that our families are safe in their homes and their area,” Komane said.
An array of food points, games that includes tug-of-war, a sack race, fun walk, swimming and many other activities were featured at the park situated near Kagiso Mall. The children were kept busy with jumping castles and other child-friendly activities and DJ Booth provided music for the day.
Also in attendance was the portfolio head of the Department of Integrated Environmental Management, Francinah Chohledi and Ward 36 councillor Azwindini Geoffrey Mutele.
Mutele has been a link between the community and the municipality and has also played a part in mobilising the relevant stakeholders.
The organisers expressed their appreciations to the event sponsors Kagiso Pharmacy, Mr Mogopodi, Emergency Services officials (colleagues of one of the patrollers, Mr Moerane) and the community who contributed towards the success of the event.
