“Kagiso Police Station is one of those that have been given special attention owing to the number of domestic violence cases reported,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police.
Sibiya added, “The station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna, has committed his station to prioritising crimes against women and children. Violent crimes against women and children will therefore not be tolerated at all.”
On 23 January, they put this statement into action when they arrested a 34-year-old man in Kagiso central, after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and pointed a firearm at her.

The woman said she was at her boyfriend’s place in Extension 8 when an argument broke out. They argued about a cellphone alarm that was set to wake her up for work.
Her boyfriend did not want her to go to work and pointed the firearm at her and demanded she return to bed. He then placed the firearm on a nearby table and hit her with a broomstick all over her body. He continued to threaten her and allegedly said he would shoot and kill her.
The man was arrested and taken to the Kagiso Police Station where he was charged with pointing a firearm and common assault. He will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
