School burglar nabbed

After months of investigating it was the cooperation of the community with the Kagiso Police that eventually led to the arrest of a man that broke into a local school last year.

“Our schools have become soft targets for criminals lately and we must all stand up as the concerned public against such unscrupulous and selfish criminals,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police.

They arrested a 24-year-old man on 8 February after a break-in at a school in Swaneville on 2 November 2018.

According to the school principal, he had closed and locked all the entrances leading into the school before he left for the day.

Early the next morning, he received a call from his one of his staff members informing him that someone had broken into the school. He rushed to the school and found that the kitchen door had been pried open and that some things were missing.

Twelve chrome taps, four water pipes, two copper taps and several cutlery sets had been stolen.

He reported the matter to the Kagiso Police.

“The working relationship between the police and the community played a vital role in the successful arrest of the suspect,” added Sibiya.

The man was detained at Kagiso Police Station and is expected to appear in court soon.
