Mutilated woman’s lover arrested for murder

After the mutilated body of a Soul City woman was found last week, the police, with the help of the community, have arrested someone suspected of killing her.

A 39-year-old man was arrested at Soul City in Kagiso on Friday, 15 February, after he allegedly murdered his lover.

Last week, the police received reports that a woman’s mutilated body had been found in the settlement. She had been stabbed in her neck and right arm and her ears had been cut off.

The murder of this woman later led to a confrontation between police, illegal miners and community members.

On Friday, the police received information from the community that the woman’s live-in lover was responsible for her death.

The Kagiso Police followed up on the information and managed to catch the man at a local shebeen. They decided to do a random search of the shebeen as well and arrested another person for drug possession.

Both of them were detained at the Kagiso Police Station. The alleged murderer is also facing charges of illegal possession of ammunition.

“We are not going to allow lawlessness where women and children are victims of severe brutality. We will act harshly towards those who do not have respect for life,” said Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.

The two suspects will be appearing in court and the police are continuing their investigations.
