Police nab hijacking suspect after high-speed chase

The Kagiso Police received information about a hijacked car, gave chase and managed to nab one of the suspects.

Kagiso Police arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly hijacking a car.

The police received information about a white Volkswagen Polo being hijacked in Orlando West on the morning of 15 February at 1.20am.

The police spotted the hijacked vehicle later that morning just before 8am and gave chase. They followed it when it turned right into Impala Road towards Kagiso. When the suspects realised the police were closing in on them, they started firing shots at them. When the police returned fire the driver lost control of the vehicle and it started rolling. Two of the suspects managed to escape but a 29-year-old man was caught and arrested.

The police also confiscated ammunition.

The suspect was charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle, attempted murder and possession of ammunition.

According to Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson, they are still searching for the other two suspects.

“We are appealing to members of the public to assist with any information that could lead to the successful arrest of the perpetrators. Anyone with information may call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Kagiso Police on 011 696 9106 or 011 906 9059,” said Sibiya.
