Man left unconscious and bloodied after a mob attack

The man was left bloodied in the street after he tried to flee his attackers. His own family stood by and witnessed the attack.

A man was left lying unconscious in a pool of his own blood, after a mob justice attack on Sunday.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police, said they arrested a 31-year-old man at the Joshua Doore settlement in Kagiso.

“Kagiso Police members received a complaint of mob justice and responded,” Sibiya said.

When the officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim had been severely assaulted and was lying in a pool of blood surrounded by a crowd. His own family were part of that crowd.

It is believed he was staying in a hostel in Kagiso and some of the people staying in the same hostel were responsible for the vicious and savage attack.

The men allegedly had an argument with the victim at about 10pm on Saturday night.

Eventually he left and went to bed to sleep. At 9.20am the next morning, the group confronted him and attacked him outside the hostel bathroom.

He tried to get away and started to run but the group chased him down and caught up with him. They continued their assault and eventually the man passed out. The group of men then got into two cars and just left him there – unconscious, in a pool of his own blood.

The police and ambulance were called and the victim was rushed to hospital.

The police started investigating and received information that two of the suspects were seen back at the hostel.

“We followed information and managed to apprehend the 31-year-old attacker. His accomplice managed to evade arrest and more suspects are still on the run.”

The 31-year-old man was charged with assault and will appear in court soon.
