“There are firearms in the hands of criminals, therefore we won’t accept someone publicly brandishing a firearm, as if carrying a stick. We needed to act fast and decisively,” warned the acting station commander of the Kagiso Police, Colonel Christel Booysen.
A 21-year-old Swaneville resident was arrested on 24 February after allegedly threatening someone while pointing a firearm at them. The victim said that he was at home at about 12.30pm, talking to friends at his gate, when two men came to the house and wanted to talk to him in private.
One of the men accused the man of sending him messages on Whatsapp and opening a case against the man’s girlfriend.
Then one of the men took out the firearm and threatened to kill the victim if he did not drop the charges against his girlfriend.
The victim went and laid a complaint with the police after the incident and the police arrested the assailant.
He will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
