Three shacks burn down after suspected arson

A Kagiso man was arrested after allegedly setting his neigbour's shack alight.

A 20-year-old man has been charged with arson after allegedly setting his neighbour’s shack on fire.

The man was arrested on Monday, 25 February at 3.45am in Swaneville.

According to the victim, he left his shack on Saturday at 8pm and went to sleep at his girlfriend’s home in Block 6.

The next morning, at 1 am, he received a call from his landlord, informing him that his shack was on fire.

The man and his girlfriend immediately rushed over to his home and found more than three shacks, including his own burning furiously.

Residents tried their best to put out the fire but all their attempts failed and the victim’s shack eventually burned to the ground.

The alleged perpetrator was arrested because he had previously threatened to burn down the victim’s shack after the two had a heated argument.

The victim lost his plasma TV, beds and blankets among other things.
