Man shot for being unable to repay debt

A man from Kagiso was shot after he could not repay his debt. The Kagiso police has caught one of the men responsible.

Moneylenders from Kagiso showed they meant business when they shot one of their clients recently.

However, the Kagiso Police made quick work of catching one of the criminals. On 5 March, they arrested a 26-year-old Leratong Village resident on charges of robbery and attempted murder allegedly committed on 25 February.

The victim said that at about 7.45pm on the night of the shooting, he was at his home in Leratong Village near Tshepisong. He heard a knock on the door and two men entered the house. They were there to collect money they claimed he owed them.

The victim gave them some cash, but the men wanted more. When he could not pay up, the two men threatened to take something of his to keep until he could pay them at the end of the month.

The men then ordered the victim’s wife to leave the house and once she was outside, one of them shot the victim in his lower body.

The two men then took a plasma TV and left the house.

The victim was rushed to hospital in a stable condition and after being treated, reported the crime to the Kagiso Police.

One of the men was eventually arrested and charged with house robbery and attempted murder. He will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court shortly.
