Successful operation by the law enforcement agencies

Many reports of illegal mining in Kromdraai were received and a multidisciplinary approach was adopted to resolve the problem.

The Police Cluster’s Rural Operation Unit, in conjunction with BCI Security, tackled many forms of lawless activities at the Cradle of Humankind Heritage Site.

According to a post by BCI Security on Facebook, many reports of illegal mining in Kromdraai were received and a multi-disciplinary approach was adopted to resolve the issues.

Police from different stations in the West Rand Cluster, Community Police Forums from all over the West Rand and local security companies were involved in the operation.

Several illegal mines were located, searched and cleared. Equipment used in illegal mining activities was confiscated.

Shebeens were also raided and closed down, with alcohol being confiscated.
