The guard told the police that he had received a call about a suspicious-looking man hanging around some shops. He responded, but when he tried to question the man about his reason for being in the area, the man became aggressive and started attacking him with bricks.
The guard then drew his firearm and fired a shot directly at the man, hitting him in his lower body.
The injured man was later taken to hospital to be treated for the gunshot wound and the guard was arrested on the scene. Police also confiscated his pistol.
The guard was charged with attempted murder and will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
