[WATCH] Solo swimmer Martin feeling Cyclone Idai’s wrath
Absolutely drained and exhausted, but solo swimmer Martin Hobbs battles on.
As of today, 13 March, Krugersdorper Martin Hobbs, who is currently swimming the length of Lake Malawi solo, has completed over 200km since he started on 20 February.
Martin, 45, is attempting to swim a gruelling 581 kilometres and aims to finish on 5 April, but the heat and weather are making things a bit hard for him.

Why is he making this attempt, you ask? All in the name of charity – The Smile Foundation – and to become a Guinness World Record-holder. To make things a bit harder, Martin swims the distance breaststroke.

At the end of Day 18 (12 March), Martin has faced many obstacles, one being Cyclone Idai which is currently moving over Mozambique, but the effects of it can be felt in Malawi.
In his vlog (video blog) Martin said they had to abandon Day 17’s swim because the waves were just too big and were filling his crew’s boat with water. On Day 18, they are pushing through, because giving up will just add to their costs.
At the end of Day 18, he said he was drained and exhausted because of the massive swells and currents. But his spirits remain high as he swims on, with his goal in mind.
