Casino group brings books to life in Munsieville
“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child” – Dr Seuss.
Story time came alive for the children at Munsieville Primary School on World Read Aloud Day on 1 February, when nine Silverstar staff members gathered at the school to read to the Grade RRs, Rs and 1s.
World Read Aloud Day, celebrated in 100 countries, encourages people to embrace the responsibility of spreading the importance and power of reading aloud and sharing stories with children, and to advocate for literacy as a human right.
The Silverstar volunteers selected their books from the library that the property had previously sponsored and established – and set about enchanting the little learners with words and actions.
Mampho Tlholoe, Payroll Clerk, read a story about grandchildren’s curiosity to a Grade R class.
Hazel Stilianou, CRM Manager, brought Dr Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham alive, inspiring children not to be afraid.
Adele Wilson, Silverstar’s CSI Manager believes reading aloud is one of the most important things a parent and caregiver can do with children.
