Women receive a very important lesson in self-defence

Many women gathered at the Key West Shopping Centre to learn how to better defend themselves, and learned a few impressive fighting moves.

Women from all over Krugersdorp recently had an opportunity to learn a bit more about how to defend themselves against physical attackers.

Miss Regal International SA 2019 finalist, Alicia Potgieter, in association with People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa), educated women about the dangers they may face in their daily lives, and showed them a few important self-defence tactics they can employ if they ever get into such a situation.

Powa supports, protects and helps women who have been abused or raped to rebuild and become stronger after such emotionally devastating events.

On the day, members and black belt fighters from the Tomodachi Karate Centre demonstrated what the easiest and most effective tactics are to get out of the hands of their attackers.

Former Miss SA second princess, Kholofelo Mabusela, acted as the master of ceremonies for the event, giving some advice of her own and lending a helping hand every now and then during the demonstrations and public participation session.

One thing is for certain, the women who attended walked away with useful knowledge and skills, and abusers should think twice next time they consider just attacking a woman.
