A woman was recently told that she was being bewitched and had to be cleansed, but the traditional healer helping her actually had other plans.
A 45-year-old man from Tshepisong was arrested on 14 March after he allegedly raped the woman under the pretence of being a helpful traditional healer.

The woman told the Kagiso Police that at 2.20pm on 12 March, she met the man on a street. She explained to the police that she had met him at her mother-in-law’s house on a previous occasion.
The man told her that she was being bewitched by her mother-in-law and needed to be cleansed. The cleansing ritual would take place at his house, and he asked her to follow him.
The woman did as the man told her. When they got to his house, he instructed her to take off all her clothing. Once she was naked, he raped her as part of the ‘cleansing process’.
The woman later reported the matter to the Kagiso Police and a case of rape was opened.
The man was eventually tracked down and arrested. He will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on rape charges.
