A horrible attack left him deaf, but now he can hear again
"I can hear everything. I even heard you walk in," Itumeleng Thekiso said between tears and a profound smile as he tested out his new sponsored high strength hearing apparatus.
It’s nearly impossible to imagine what it would be like to suddenly lose all hearing in both ears after having spent nearly half your life experiencing the auditory magnificence that this world has to offer.
We sometimes overlook just how truly blessed we are to hear the chirp-chirp of birds overhead, the honk of a car horn as you cross the street, or simply the footsteps of someone walking up behind you.
The News recently had the blessed opportunity to witness a man regain his hearing after having lost it a few months ago as a result of a grievous assault by a group of thugs and thieves.

The men cornered Itumeleng Thekiso (whom his friends aptly call Joy) as he came from Maponya Mall in Soweto.
He was left with profound bilateral hearing loss and partial paralysis in part of his face as a result of severe nerve damage.
A large hearing aid supplier, Beltone, heard about his story and gladly arranged for a hearing device specific to Itumeleng’s needs.
Itumeleng excitedly said that he could now easily complete his IT Support course at college where he is also an assistant facilitator.
