The Kagiso Police have expressed their concern about complaints that have been registered about theft out of cars.
A woman told the police that on 19 March at about 8.40pm, she parked her car at a filling station near Chamdor and activated the immobiliser to lock the car.
“However, she never physically checked the car to see if all the doors were properly locked,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police.

She then withdrew money from an ATM and drove to a local hospital where she parked her car again. The woman said she went into the hospital and returned to her car about five minutes later, got in and drove off again.
When she arrived home, she noticed that the car’s boot was not locked and that the laptop that was in it had been stolen.
“Criminals sometimes use gate remote devices to jam your immobiliser from a distance,” said Sibiya.
He said further that when you activate the lock, you will still hear the sound of the car locking even though it is being jammed.
He explained that theft out of a motor vehicle is a crime that involves smash and grabs, tampering with locked doors and so on.
“Leaving valuable items like cellphones, laptops, wallets and handbags where criminals can see them can be a contributing factor to these kinds of crimes,” explained Sibiya.
“We are therefore compelled to warn the public about the ever-changing tactics criminals use to steal their hard-earned property,” continued Sibiya.
He urged the community to physically check their doors, even if they think their car is locked.
