Community street market a huge success
The Beanies for Beings organisation recently visited Krugersdorp. They fed hundreds of people and distributed much-needed donations.
The team from the Beanies for Beings charity organisation hosted a day of giving in March.
Volunteers gathered from 8am to set up at the Christian Campus Church in Lewisham for the community street market that was open to the public from 10am.

Residents stood in queues outside to get their chance to visit the street market as the organisation was ready to feed and clothe 700 people.
The community members who really needed it could walk through the market where they received clothes or shoes in their size.
Everyone received a pair of socks to keep their feet warm.

Then it was on to the toiletries station where the men each got a tube of toothpaste and every family received a bar of soap. Multivitamins, burn shield, sunscreen, moisturising cream, tampons, sanitary pads and face wash were also distributed.
The last stop at the market was a warm meal, some fresh fruit and vegetables, and a cooldrink for every person passing trough.
After the street market members of the organisation also stopped at the We’re Against Hunger (Was) Rainbow house and The Cradle of Hope shelter to hand over some more donations and food.

Two years ago, Megan Botha, the founder of the organisation wanted to knit 460 beanies for her 46th birthday. She ended up knitting 1 200 beanies and distributing them to organisations. The public saw the donations she was making and also started donating more and more to her. Before long the Beanies for Beings organisation was founded.
Every month Megan and her organisation host a different drive. To find out more about the Beanies for Beings organisation, visit their Facebook page.
