‘No one is above the law’ – Kagiso Police station commander

A man was severely assaulted and left for dead after six people had accused and attacked him.

“Our intensified operations and searches for suspects yielded results on 27 March at 11pm,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police.

The police arrested four men, aged between 23 and 42, from Extension 12 in Kagiso. They are suspects in a case in which six people allegedly picked up their victim at a local car wash and later questioned him about a bed that had gone missing.

According to a statement by Sibiya, they then accused the victim of being in possession of a stolen spade and assaulted him with bricks, sticks and bottles.

They left their victim lying on the ground and bleeding. After he was found he was rushed to hospital with severe injuries to his body and head.

A case docket of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened against the six attackers at the Kagiso Police Station.

“Kagiso Police conducted special operations which led to the arrests of four of the suspects. They have appeared briefly in court,” said Sibiya.

“We are very concerned about ongoing incidents where people take the law into their own hands. We will continue to arrest them, regardless of what the victim is said to have done. No person is above the law,” warned the Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna.
