Man arrested for the murder of his girlfriend – tried to poison himself

A man allegedly murdered his girlfriend and, after going into the main house reportedly covered in blood, was found by Kagiso Police.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 4 April, on suspicion of murder. He allegedly murdered his live-in romantic partner at Leratong Village, near Tshepisong.

“Our sector members received a complaint about domestic violence and responded swiftly to the crime scene. Upon arrival, they found a neighbour in the yard who informed them of the incident and mentioned that he had heard the suspect’s girlfriend screaming,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police Station.

According to the police, the neighbour added he saw the suspect leaving the shack and going into the main house, his clothes covered in blood.

“Our members went into the shack where they found the woman’s body in a pool of blood under the bed. She had sustained open wounds to the hand and the face,” Captain Sibiya said.

Reportedly, the man voluntarily confessed to the crime of murdering his girlfriend, and mentioned that he had consumed a poisonous substance. He was placed under arrest and the murder weapon, found next to him, was confiscated.

He was detained at Kagiso Police Station and later rushed to hospital under police guard.

A case docket of murder was opened and the motive for the murder is under police investigation.
