Kagiso driver learner testing centre to create jobs

The DLTC is located in the heart of Kagiso and was recently handed over to the community.

It was with great joy that Kagiso residents welcomed their well-equipped Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) on Thursday, 11 April.

The MEC for Roads and Transport, Dr Ismail Vadi, and the MEC for Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), Jacob Mamabolo, officially handed over the DLTC, a cutting-edge green technology facility, located in the heart of Kagiso, to the community of Krugersdorp.

The project was completed at a total cost of R24,2 million, and is one of the range of projects the Gauteng government has released to communities since the country’s fifth administration since the establishment of the democracy commenced in 2014 and came to an end earlier this year. Other infrastructure investments recently handed over to Gauteng communities include schools, clinics, community centres and libraries.

The DLTC is an environment-friendly facility that will preserve energy through its glazing insulation when it is cold, and has a dual solar/ electric geyser.

“This facility is equipped with cutting-edge green technology that makes it simultaneously energy efficient and adaptable to changes in the climate,” said MEC Mambolo during the official handover.

He also explained that the facility is going to enhance service delivery and make the lives of the people much easier.

“The number and quality of the projects that we are delivering is a true testament to the behind the scenes work that DID undertook to optimise, streamline and refine our service delivery model. It is not a case of these projects being stored away and now being given to communities because we are in election season,” he added.

MEC Vadi praised the accomplishment and the aesthetics of the building, saying that it is a huge investment in Kagiso.

“Facilities such as these were formerly reserved for the suburbs. The Gauteng government has deliberately decided that these services should be in our communities, reducing the inconvenience to the many who had to travel long distances to access these services,” he said.

The facility is intended to cater for approximately 800 patrons per day, from both Kagiso and its surrounding areas, and will alleviate the congestion at the other testing centre in Mogale City. It will also cater for both Code 8 and 10 licensing and is a Motor Vehicle Registering Authority (MVRA).
