Mafikizolo’s Nciza donate school shoes
The wife, mother, songbird, composer and creative director of fashion brand NN Vintage, took advantage of the platform by singing and motivating learners.
Mafikizolo’s Nhlanhla Nciza joined in to help less-fortunate children in Mogale City.
In a separate campaign dubbed ‘School Shoes Campaign’, the 41-year-old Afro-pop queen and the Mogale City ambassador joined the likes of radio DJ, Dineo Ranaka; actress, Zenande Mfenyana, and television presenter, Lalla Hirayama – and threw her weight behind getting school shoes to local children.
Her charitable efforts were made possible during the month of April when she teamed up with Absa, the Mogale City Local Municipality and the Kagiso-based Seventh Baptist Church to visit less-privileged schools in and around the city.
The wife, mother, songbird, composer and creative director of fashion brand NN Vintage, Nhlanhla also took advantage of the platform by singing and motivating learners to study hard to become better people in life.
During her visit to Tarlton Primary School in the semi-rural area of Matshelapata, three kilometres from Krugersdorp’s CBD, Nhlanhla said all children should have equal access to comparable resources in light of their educational needs.
She pledged 110 pairs of shoes, while Absa donated 1 000 pairs of shoes and 2 194 pairs of socks. The municipality contributed an additional 1 000 pairs of shoes, with the local church donating 84 pairs. Over 2 000 pairs of school shoes were distributed to 40 local schools. According to Stats SA, approximately 70 per cent of learners walk to school every day, many of whom are barefoot or wearing damaged shoes.
Alongside Nhlanhla was Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Naga Patrick Lipudi, who saw the donation as another way of restoring the dignity of the learners.
The campaign is also being run in collaboration with the Gauteng Department of Education, which ensured all rural and non-fee paying schools in the city benefited from this initiative. The campaign was officially launched at Lesego Primary School, a rural school in Muldersdrift, with representatives of all 40 schools in attendance for the symbolic handover.
