Reports of a shooting incident were posted on Facebook, yesterday, 16 May.
It was at first believed that a man in a car had been shot in a botched hijacking attempt outside the PNA/ Wimpy entrance at Key West Shopping Centre, but a statement from centre management cleared up a few things.
“Key West Shopping Centre can confirm that an armed robbery occurred in the parking area [at Entrance 4] at approximately 3.17pm,” said the statement. One shot was fired, but fortunately no injuries were reported.

“The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.”
The statement also said that centre management would like to remind shoppers to change their routines regularly, especially when they withdraw money or make regular bank deposits.
“Report any suspicious behaviour to security or centre management immediately. The safety of all patrons and shoppers is, and always remains, our top priority and we will continue to remain alert.”
The News contacted Captain Sebonyane, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police for comment. He said that he was not aware of the incident but that he would follow up and provide feedback as soon as possible.
