Scylash making beautiful music again
The local music sensation from Tarlton, Lucky Matome otherwise known as Scylash has released his newest single featuring Maezozo.

Local cop and musician, Lucky Matome, popularly known as Scylash, is at it again.
He will soon be shooting the music video for his fourth song, which he says tells a story.
On 9 April, he released his new hit single, Zamalek, featuring Maezozo.
“I wanted to do something with someone from Kagiso. When I first heard Maezozo, I liked one of his songs, and decided to invite him to one of my gigs,” Lucky said.
The two of them performed at Base to Base Mogale First at Coronation Dam on 16 February.
“Afterwards, I told him of the song idea I had. He is township-rooted and I wanted someone who understood the township lifestyle to work with me on the song,” he explained.
The song is about women and useless men. It focuses on how hard-working men have loving women and families at home – people who love them and look after them. But as soon as they get hold of some money, they spend it on all the wrong things and people, instead of on their families.
The two musicians took two days to record everything they needed for the song and a month for the final mixing to get done.
“It was as if we had planned it for years; we just went to the studio and made the song,” Lucky explained.
Although ‘Zamalek’ can mean ‘beer’, in this song, it is representative of all the material things that men give women. Although the song has a very seductive undertone, he said that he wanted it to be something that young adults could also enjoy.
In one of the lines, he tries to tell the audience that in order to get what you want, you sometimes have to do things you don’t like and work hard. Then you will be prepared for anything.
The song follows a man who works hard for his family but spends his money with slay queens, beautiful materialistic women, and bad friends who party all the time.
He said that he has seen this seen play out in real life before, and that situations like these can lead to unnecessary domestic violence and divorces.
“It also affects children more than people think,” he explained.
Lucky went on to say that he wants to focus on men who try to live a life they cannot afford, and try to be something they are not.
“I want to create a dialogue with this song, I want people to talk about situations like these,” he said. Lucky explained that it is a musician’s job to create art that will impact the world we live in and make it better for future generations.
“We want a responsible community. I am at the peak of my age group, and feel I must leave a solid foundation for future generations,” he said.
If you are interested in seeing Scylash perform, keep an eye on his social media pages. The music video for Zamalek will be released within the next month, and the song can be bought on any digital platform.
Lucky is an independent artist and owner of his own record label, Scylash Entertainment, and said that they are always looking for sponsors to help them further young talent.
“We are also trying to establish a dance school on the West Rand. Right now we have one in Soweto, but we would like one here as well.”
Lucky expressed his thanks to his sponsors – Honey Badger, a local clothing company that sponsors his image, Monument Liquor Warehouse, who helped with the music video and Boabab Supermarket in Tarlton.
