[WATCH] Corolla driver involved in Robert Broom Drive accident caught on dashcam fled the scene

The driver of the vehicle which was stationary on Robert Broom Drive fled the scene shortly after the accident. Dashcam footage shows how a bakkie careers off the road to avoid hitting the stationary car on Robert Broom Drive.

The News was contacted by one of the driver’s involved in the accident who informed us that the person driving the silver Corolla fled the scene after the accident occurred. If you have any information about this driver, please inform the authorities or phone journalist Jaco Human on 011 955 1130.

Bakkie rolls after swerving out for a stationary car in the middle of Robert Broom Drive

Three cars were involved in an accident this morning (31 May) just before 8am on Robert Broom Drive where it connects to the Paardekraal Drive (R28) off-ramp.

Video footage submitted to the News shows a stationary silver Toyota Corolla with its wheels turned sideways in the middle of Robert Broom Drive, with a Volkswagen stationary in the right-hand turning lane, attempting to turn onto the Paardekraal Drive on-ramp.

A bakkie approaching from the rear swerved to the right to avoid colliding with the Corolla, hit the back of the Volkswagen and vaulted over the centre median, finally ending on its roof in the oncoming lane.

The accident happened in front of a car fitted with a dashcam, which provided footage of the whole ordeal. This car swerved and braked to avoid hitting the bakkie, and finally hit a lamp post.

Authorities were on the scene shortly thereafter.

It is not yet known to the News whether there were any major injuries.
