Woman near Leratong may be targeted again

The Kagiso Police appeal to women to be vigilant around the Leratong Hospital taxi rank after an attack on a woman recently.

A woman was robbed of her laptop while she was waiting for her boyfriend at the Leratong Hospital taxi rank. The incident happened on Thursday, 6 June, at 8.30pm.

A statement from Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police read that the area next to Leratong Hospital is once again in the spotlight. Not so long ago there were a number of incidents of rape and armed robberies directed at women.

The women who were waiting for transport were under attack for nearly three years.

“Police managed to arrest some of the serial rapists and worked tirelessly with the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit to ensure that the rapists got maximum sentences, including life sentences,” added Solomon.

He added that the Kagiso Police appeal to everyone who will be boarding transport late at night around Leratong Hospital taxi rank to be vigilant and preferably make alternative arrangements to get home safe.

“We also want to appeal to members of the public to assist the police with any information that can lead to the arrest of the two men who are targeting the unsuspecting women near that taxi rank,” asked Solomon
