Brave reaction officer intervenes in Muldersdrift robbery

A reaction officer was doing his routine patrols when he came across a robbery in progress. Quick thinking helped him save the day.

On Wednesday, 26 June, a Muldersdrift security guard was overpowered and tied up with shoelaces during a robbery at a local business.

A statement from the Muldersdrift Police said that at about 11.20pm, a guard was in the guard room when he was approached by what looked to be four to six armed robbers.

They tied the guard’s hands with shoelaces before taking him to a caravan, where two other people were already tied up and waiting.

The robbers took 11 batteries and 31 truck tyres, but before they could load the stolen goods, a patrol officer from Drift Reaction, who was doing his regular patrol, interrupted them.

They fired shots at the brave patrol officer, who then returned fire, and the suspects fled the scene on foot.

“The suspects were wearing balaclavas, and the matter is under investigation at this stage,” said Constable Slindile Ntuli, spokesperson for the Muldersdrift Police.

A post on the Muldersdrift News & Info Facebook page said that there were 12 armed robbers who entered the property on Drift Boulevard and overpowered the guard.

The post continues to say that they tied up the sleeping drivers then ransacked containers with valuable motor parts.

The Drift Reaction officer apparently noticed bricks stacked next to a high wall when he stopped for his routine site check.

The robbers then opened fire on him, but he managed to get back into his vehicle where he could then call for backup. By the time backup arrived, the suspects were already gone.

The Muldersdrift Police are asking anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of these suspects to contact them on 011 952 4600 or Crime Stop on 086000 10111.
