Teenager shot during argument over cellphone repairs

A young man was shot while trying to enquire about his broken phone.

A Grade 10 boy allegedly sustained a gunshot wound on 10 July, and a case of attempted murder has been opened.

The 18-year-old boy went to another man in the ABSA informal settlement on Sunset Drive in Rietfontein at about 4.30pm when the incident occurred.

The man, who is said to be a technician of some sort, was asked to repair the boy’s phone and he wanted to enquire about it.

The two of them got into an argument, and the repair man pulled out a firearm and fired one shot. The bullet grazed the teenager’s right upper leg and the older man fled from the scene.

The repairman is very well known in the community, and they took it upon themselves to break down his shack and set the property alight.
