The operation is held in partnership with the Departments of Home Affairs, Labour, Health and Environment and includes police members from all 13 stations in the district, including rural safety and district Community Policing Forum patrollers.

The focus was on four policing precincts within the district, namely Muldersdrift, Tarlton, Hekpoort and Magaliesburg. The operation started at 7am and ended at 3pm.

In Muldersdrift, 31 illegal immigrants were arrested, plus one person for dealing in liquor without a licence, another for dealing in dagga and a third for interfering with the police.

Several arrests were made.

Seventeen illegal immigrants were arrested in Tarlton. Two other individuals were arrested for possession of dagga and two more were nabbed at the vehicle check point.

Magaliesburg saw one arrest for nyaope possession, and one for dagga possession. Nine illegal immigrants were also arrested.

In Hekpoort, three written J534 notices were issued – two for shebeens to be closed down and one for non-compliance with the Liquor Act 59 of 2003. One person was arrested for dagga possession and another for possession of dagga and suspected stolen goods. Police also caught three illegal immigrants.

Some of the things found in the suspects’ possession.

Stop and search operations were also conducted in each precinct and arrested illegal immigrants were processed by the Department of Home Affairs.

There was also a focus on road safety and an inter-provincial roadblock was conducted by the traffic departments from the North West Province, Gauteng, Mogale City and the National traffic police as well as the Department of Correctional Services.

“The roadblock was held on one of the most problematic roads, the R24 in Magaliesburg’s policing precinct, which is notorious for its truck and vehicle hijackings,” explained Matome.

Fines were issued to all road safety transgressors.

The West Rand District Commissioner, Major General PF Kekana, thanked all members and external stakeholders for their dedication and commitment towards fighting crime in the district.

“Through this we will continue to demonstrate our commitment to the fight against crime and the adherence to road safety regulations. We will continue to deploy personnel and resources to various areas in the district to address crime and road safety challenges facing our communities,” said Kekana.
