Police try to eradicate criminal elements

West Rand police arrested numerous people during the past weekend in an effort to keep the residents safe.

“West Rand District police members were out and about this past weekend ensuring that residents are protected from criminals,” said Constable Lucky Matome, the Tarlton Police’s corporate communications officer.

During the weekend, they arrested 71 suspects for various crimes.

“These arrests were for rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm, domestic violence cases, assaults with intent to do or cause grievous bodily harm, house robbery, possession of dangerous weapons, theft, assault and driving under the influence of alcohol,” explained Matome.

He went on to say that the police will continue to combat crime effectively in the district.

The West Rand District Commissioner, Major General PF Kekana, is appealing to the community to work with the police in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects as well as the recovery of illegal firearms, stolen property and hijacked vehicles.
