Paulus Mpho Kgopane, 31, received a life sentence for murder in the South Gauteng High Court recently.
Warrant Officer Nico Rheeder’s hard work and intensive investigation led to the arrest of Kgopane in 2017.
Two years ago the Krugersdorp Police responded to a call regarding a murder in the early hours of 24 June 2017.

“On arrival at the scene they [Krugersdorp Police members] found a man lying dead on the corner of Robert Broom Drive and Van Riebeeck Street,” explained Captain Raymond Sebonyane, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police.
The man had been shot twice in the upper body, and stabbed in his right hand and shoulder.
A case docket was opened and more than two years later, on 16 July, Kgopane was found guilty on five counts and sentenced to life imprisonment.
For the murder charges he received life imprisonment, for the attempted murder charges he received five years’ imprisonment, for the robbery with aggravating circumstances he received eight years’ imprisonment, for the unlawful possession of a firearm he received four years’ imprisonment and for the unlawful possession of ammunition he received four years’ imprisonment.
He has also been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
