The Kagiso Police arrested a 26-year old man at the Hospital View settlement on 17 July at about 9am after he tried to steal a woman’s cellphone at knifepoint.
According to the woman she was taking her waste bin outside to be collected when the man approached her and ordered her to come closer to him.
When she refused, he pulled out a knife and warned her not to scream.

She decided to scream, even tough he threatened her, and some community members heard her and responded. They chased the man and eventually caught him and handed him over to the Kagiso Police.
“He was put under arrest and detained at Kagiso Police where a case docket of attempted robbery was registered,” said captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police.
“We were impressed by the residents’ attitude to not to take the law into their own hands. That is the kind of assistance we expect. To those who continue to defy our call not to take law into their hands, they are going to face the harsh might of the law,” warned Brigadier Maduna, Kagiso Police station commander.
