Krugersdorp police teach fire safety and do their bit for Madiba

The Krugersdorp Police and other stakeholders visited four schools in the Krugersdorp area on Mandela Day.

The Krugersdorp Police combined their Mandela Day good deeds with a teaching moment.

On 18 July, their communications department teamed up with the Community Policing Forum, the Department of Education and the National Security and Fire company to visit four schools in the Krugersdorp area.

The Krugersdorp Police handed out 99 school backpacks on Mandela Day.

The group went to Westrand Primary Mine School, Krugersdorp Rand Academy, ProPracticum School and Laerskool Ebenhaeser.

“The learners were taught how to put out a fire and were also shown different types of fire extinguishers,” explained Captain Raymond Sebonyane, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police.

The group also explained to the learners why they should not play with fire extinguishers and a fire extinguisher assessment was done in all four schools.

During the day, the team handed over 99 school backpacks to needy children at Westrand Primary Mine School and Laerskool Ebenhaeser, as part of their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.
