Krispy Kreme opens 98th South African store in Cradlestone Mall
Doughnut fans braved a wet and freezing Saturday morning in Muldersdrift to win prizes and score a year's supply of sweet treats.
Doughnut lovers queued before sunrise in cold and wet weather for the grand opening of Krispy Kreme’s newest store in Cradlestone Mall on September 5.
The early birds were rewarded as part of a special opening promotion. The first person in line received a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts every week for a year, while prizes were offered to the first 100 customers.

Andrea Chetty claimed the first spot at 01:45, saying she loves the brand and wanted to be part of the opening. She joked that she would have to balance her doughnut intake with gym visits.

Krispy Kreme South Africa’s managing director Gerry Thomas said the new store is the company’s 98th in South Africa and has been more than 10 years in the making.

He said the turnout exceeded expectations, particularly given the cold weather, and described the opening as a way of rewarding loyal customers and celebrating the brand’s iconic doughnuts.
