Third time not lucky as criminals get chased after robbing two homes

A robber who went on a house-robbing spree with his accomplices was caught by the community and handed over to the police.

The Kagiso Police arrested a 27-year-old man on 14 July on suspicion of house robbery.

The man and his accomplices allegedly entered a house in the Tshepisong West area on 12 July at about 10pm. They gained entry by forcing the door open with a steel object.

At this point, the woman living in the house screamed for help, but the four suspects threatened her with a firearm and pistol-whipped her. They then took her cash and cellphone.

On 14 July, at about 1.30am, there was a second house robbery. It is alleged that six suspects entered the victim’s yard by climbing over the wall.

“A shot was fired and four suspects appeared, pushed the door open and entered the house,” said a statement from Kagiso Police’s spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya.

Once inside, the robbers demanded cash and got their hands on about R3 900 worth of Mozambican bank notes, two cellphones and the victim’s personal documents.

The robbers weren’t done yet and moved on to a third house to continue their robbing streak.

“But a member of the community blew the whistle and positively identified one suspect,” explained Sibiya.

The community member alerted the rest of the community who woke up and chased the robbers.

“The suspect was eventually apprehended with four handbags and a cellphone which were positively linked to the two house robberies,” said Sibiya.

The 27-year-old man was detained at the Kagiso Police Station. He has already briefly appeared court and was remanded in custody for further police investigations.
