St Ursula’s keeps it clean

The learners from St Ursula's helped to clean up around the dam recently.

The learners from St Ursula’s Primary School recently wanted to set an example for the community and decided to clean up around Pretorius Park and Monument Dam.

Only the Grade 4 to 7 learners were allowed to venture outside of school as the other learners are still a little young. But every learner did his or her part on 18 July, also known as Mandela Day.

Everyone was excited about cleaning up.

The learners each received a black bag and gloves to keep them safe, and then set about cleaning and quickly filled up the bags.

While the older kids were busy in town, the Grade 1 to 3 learners made sure the school grounds were neat and tidy and even the littlest ones, the preschool learners, had to clean their preschool grounds.

Claire Conradie, the deputy head of the primary school, said that whenever they drove past the dam there was litter all over, and that was what gave them the idea.

This group worked together to clean up.

Early in the morning, the head prefects talked to all of the learners to explain why they were doing the clean-up and then about 90 kids set out en masse for the area.

Claire said the school tries to help someone every term, so this term they are also collecting peanut butter and jam for the Cradle of Hope. All donations are welcome.
